My Review of the Four Seasons Big Island Hawaii
My Review of the Four Seasons Resort Hualalai, Big Island, Hawaii
I’m a sucker for a good surprise, and this birthday one truly took my breath away. My boyfriend (at the time) surprised me with a stay at the Four Seasons Resort Hualalai, a world-class luxury resort nestled on the stunning Big Island of Hawaii.
Before arriving at the Four Seasons, we actually spent the first part of our trip at Kona Landing, my modern 2-bedroom, 2-bath ocean-view condo located just steps from Ali’i Drive. It’s incredibly popular and often booked out, so when we couldn’t stay there the entire trip, we pivoted to a luxe birthday escape that made the second half of our 5-day itinerary on the Big Island one to remember.

Arrival and First Impressions
The Four Seasons knows how to make a girl feel special. Upon arrival, we were greeted with fresh juice, fragrant flower leis, and instant aloha vibes. The property is beachfront, and the views are simply next level. The lush tropical landscaping, open-air architecture, and quiet elegance set the tone for a deeply relaxing stay.
We checked into a dreamy oceanfront room—massive, breezy, and luxurious. The bed felt like a cloud, and our indoor-outdoor shower was surrounded by jungle plants, giving it a romantic, spa-like atmosphere. Our private lanai opened directly onto the sand, which made it easy to stroll the beach at sunrise with a coffee in hand. And yes, we fully enjoyed that bed. Sex positivity, anyone?

Pools and King’s Pond Snorkeling
We took full advantage of all seven pools on the property, and each had its own vibe. My favorite was King’s Pond, a swimmable aquarium carved from lava rock and filled with over 1,000 tropical fish. Snorkeling there felt like one of the best underwater adventures on the Big Island—without ever leaving the resort.
Other pools include the serene Palm Grove Pool, an adults-only sanctuary with cocktail service and plush loungers, and the relaxing Spa Pool, perfect for post-treatment lounging. There’s also a lap pool, a beachside family pool, a keiki (kids) pool, and a quiet reflection pool surrounded by palms.
We even indulged in a poolside massage—yes, you can get a massage without leaving your lounger. Say less.
Restaurants at Four Seasons Hualalai
Every meal we had at the resort was exceptional. From fresh island ingredients to stunning ocean views, it was a foodie’s dream. We had my birthday dinner at Ulu Ocean Grill, and it was incredibly romantic. Oceanfront tables, sushi, and top-notch seafood were absolutely delicious.
Other Restaurants include:
Beach Tree: Italian-meets-California cuisine served barefoot in the sand
Hualalai Grille: Classic steakhouse flavors with Big Island flair
Poolside service: Think gluten-free pizzas, fresh poke, tropical cocktails
Residents’ Beach House: A laid-back spot with toes-in-the-sand vibez
Hualalai Trading Company: Great for gourmet snacks, coffee, and island-inspired souvenirs
Whether you’re in the mood for romantic fine dining or a low-key bite, the culinary offerings here are as thoughtfully crafted as the resort itself.
Spa and Romance
Of course, no luxury birthday would be complete without a spa day. We booked a couples massage in one of their breezy outdoor hales and spent the afternoon relaxing in the tranquil garden. The setting is surrounded by native flora, loungers, and peaceful water features. Since it was my birthday, we popped a bottle of champagne and cozied up in a quiet corner. Heaven.
The Vibe and the Verdict
Every corner of the Four Seasons Hualalai is a love letter to Hawaiian luxury. From lounging next to the ocean to strolling the lush paths of the resort, every detail feels designed to soothe and inspire. The location is also perfect for exploring Big Island beaches, snorkeling, or hopping over to Kona Hawaii restaurants and Kona Hawaii bars just a short drive away.
If you’re planning your dream Big Island escape, this resort is absolutely worth booking—that is, of course, if my Kona, Hawaii Airbnb isn’t available. Either way, be sure to stop by for dinner or drinks and take a sunset stroll around the lush, peaceful grounds. I never visit without making a stop at the Four Seasons.
